Name of product: Nest Protect: Smoke + CO Alarm

Hazard: Activity near the product during a fire can prevent the alarm from immediately sounding when the Nest Wave feature is enabled.

Units: About 440,000


This recall includes all Nest Protect Smoke + CO alarms. The alarms are made of black or white plastic and are about 5.25 inches square with rounded corners and about 1.5 inches deep. The word “nest” is on a large button on the face of the alarm. Consumers can enable the alarms to be controlled by a computer or a smartphone over a wireless network. The alarms have a Nest Wave feature, which allows users to temporarily silence some alerts or cancel a manual test by vigorously waving an arm near the unit that triggered the alarm. Nest Protect Smoke + CO alarms came from the factory with the Nest Wave feature enabled and with the slider button in the “On” position in Nest Protect Settings.


Nest Labs has received no reports of incidents, injuries or property damage.


The repair is an automatic electronic update that disables the Nest Wave feature and is delivered automatically to devices connected wirelessly to the Internet and linked to a Nest account. Consumers should take one of the following actions:


Consumers who have not connected their Nest Protect devices to their wireless network and linked them to a Nest account should immediately do so. The devices will automatically receive the update that disables the Nest Wave feature. Customers should confirm that their devices have been updated by going to Nest Sense on their Nest account mobile or web application and ensuring that the button for Nest Wave is off and grayed out. Instructions on how to connect to a network and disable the feature are available at or by contacting Nest Labs.


Consumers whose Nest Protect devices are connected to their wireless network and linked to a Nest account should immediately confirm the receipt of an automatic repair that disabled the Nest Wave feature by going to Nest Sense on their Nest account mobile or web application and ensuring that the button for Nest Wave is set to “off” and grayed out. No further action is required and consumers can continue to use their devices.

Local Elected Officials, Members of the Community, & Members of the Press,

Each year in May, our Nation celebrates National EMS Week. This week is dedicated to emergency medical technicians everywhere. Here in the community of Lafayette, our EMS team is made up of highly skilled and qualified EMS professionals who dedicate themselves to their community each and every day.

On Monday May 19, 2014, the Lafayette Township Trustees will meet in regular session. At this meeting, a proclamation will be rendered from the board of trustees proclaiming the week of May 18-24, 2014 as National EMS Week in Lafayette Township.

You are hereby cordially invited to attend this event. Members of Lafayette Township Fire Department will be on hand to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the service they provide to the communities of Lafayette, Chippewa Lake, and Gloria Glens. Afterward, cake and refreshments will be provided and Emergency Medical Technicians will be on hand for an informal “meet-n-greet” session. Both ambulances will also be present and on display.

The meeting will be held on May 19, 2014 at 6:30pm at the Lafayette Township Hall located at 6776 Wedgewood RD Medina, OH 44256.

Fire Communities Come Together

Recently, southern Medina County Fire Departments, including Lafayette have been pretty busy with multiple incidents requiring numerous resources. Within the last 2 weeks, Lafayette has assisted neighboring Chatham Township Fire Department with a large brush fire in which 80+ acres burned as well as a house fire on Congress RD. Today, departments from Lafayette, Chatham, Westfield, Lodi, & Seville-Guilford took part in a mock motor vehicle accident to raise safety awareness for the recent upcoming 2015 Cloverleaf Prom. Just another way your fire departments are working for you!
